Sigma Kappa has 4 philanthropies!
-Maine Sea Coast Mission
-Alzheimer's Association
-Gerontology
-Inherit the Earth/Reforest the Bluegrass

The Maine Sea Coast Mission provides services to people in need all along the coast of Maine while trying to address causes of these needs. With the help of the 75-foot mission vessel, Sunbeam V, programs and services include church and pastoral work, assistance to those in sickness and poverty, financial aid, food banks, recycled clothing shops, crisis intervention, youth programs, and ministries in the field. Sigma Kappas have been contributing to the Maine Sea Coast Mission since 1918. It is one way we remain close to our roots in Maine.

In 1984 Sigma Kappas began contributing to another cause, the Alzheimer's Association.  Alzheimer's Disease is an increasingly critical problem facing older Americans and Sigma Kappa has continued to support Alzheimer's Disease research and education to its philanthropic activities. Research grants are made each year to universities and other institutions actively engaged in the fight against Alzheimer's Disease.

Gerontology: In 1954 Sigma Kappas became the first national sorority to recognize the need for increased care and study of aging and the needs of aging people. Chapters across the country donate their time to this cause.

Inherit the Earth/Reforest the Bluegrass are foundations to improve local environments. This includes activities such as planting flowers or tree seedlings that improve streamside water quality, aquatic and grassland habitats and overall land stability.

Each spring, our chapter hosts an on-campus mud volleyball tournament, Sigma Spike, to raise money for the Maine Sea Coast Missionary Society.
